All Access Downtown Guelph

Description: For all the history, beauty and character in the infrastructure of Downtown Guelph, there wasn't much thought put into the idea of being inclusive, accessible and barrier-free for those with mobility issues. However, due to the diligence and collaboration of organizations and advocates for accessibility, that has begun to change. On June 25th, the Downtown Guelph Business Association, representatives from the Guelph Accessibility Project and community partners welcomed the public to St. George's Square to celebrate the significant improvements with an "all-access party." The event served as one part celebration and one part education; with attendees taking home the new Downtown Guelph Accessibility Map and hearing from influential people who have been a part of All Access Downtown Guelph. Changes such as the implementation of StopGap Ramps for nearly 40 local businesses, removing sidewalk trip hazards, accessible parking and extensive renovations to heritage sites are just some of the accomplishments made towards a downtown core that is accessible, inviting and welcoming to all citizens.
